Destino ainda pouco conhecido dos brasileiros, Barbados foi colonizada pelos ingleses e teve seu apogeu

enquanto foi o principal fornecedor de açúcar para o Império Britanico. É a ilha mais oriental do Caribe e fica a apenas 5 horas e meia de Sao Paulo, em vôo direto e semanal da Gol, saindo e tambem voltando aos sábados. Os vôos são operados em 737, sem muito espaço e sem entretenimento a bordo, salvo o "Gol no ar" para quem tem iphone ou netbook, mas servem jantar razoável e café da manhã fraco ao estilo da Gol (bolacha e suco).

Alem de belas praias no estilo caribenho, tambem possui praias revoltas próprias para o surfe. O idioma falado é o inglês, o sistema de governo parlamentarista, sendo Barbados membro do Crommonwealth. Sua populacao é de 270.000 habitantes, sendo as principais atividades o turismo e o plantio de cana, juntamente com setor de serviços.

É uma das ilhas mais prósperas do caribe e especializou-se em turismo de alto luxo, sendo destino de muitos europeus e americanos, a exemplo do golfista Tiger Woods, sendo terra natal da cantora Riahana. As praias além de possuírem os lindos tons de azul do caribe, tem temperatura agradável, não sendo tão mornas quanto as do Nordeste Brasileiro.

As melhores praias para banho definitivamente estão na costa oeste e no sul da ilha, aréas voltadas para o mar do caribe. Entre as que mais gostei, estão Accra ou Rockley Beach, Miami Beach, Dover Beach, Carlyle Bay ou praia do primeiro Ministro, todas ao sul da capital Bridgetown, bem como as praias da Costa oeste propriamente dita, acima de Bridgetown, Mullins Bay, Folkstone e Port Saint Charles. Na minha opinião as melhores são as 4 primeiras ao sul, sem esquecer da praia do Hilton que também é legal. A minha preferência pelas praias do Sul deve-se ao mar ser mais calmo e com azul mais bonito, bem como pela brisa que sopra constantemente, coisa que não acontece muito nas praias acima da capital, sendo as da costa leste mais bravias e com beleza mais selvagem (Basheeba, Crane Beach e trecho de praias acima de Basheeba, onde existe estrada que da para ver o mar).

No quesito hotéis Barbados tem diversas opções, desde o Sandy Lane de alto luxo a excelentes opções tipo hotel com característica de flat, com quartos equipados com cozinha e pequenos flats com serviços legais. Resumindo os que mais recomendo são 3 hotéis em Accra rockley Beach (Accra hotel, único pé na areia e estilo resort - South apartements, flat moderninho bem perto do Accra e em frente ao mar e o que fiquei e indico sem medo South Beach Apartments, flat maneiro também perto do hotel Accra, com cozinha equipada, quarto grande, vista para o mar, só atravessar a rua e está na praia, sem café da manhã, mas com ótimo atendimento (destaque para a Sra. Audra e Derrick) e excelente custo benefício, diárias de US$ 138 na baixa e US$ 148 na alta. Em Accra Beach vc está a poucos metros de opções excelentes de comida, desde restaurantes mais caros da ilha a lanchonetes fast food bem interessantes, perto da capital para compras, a 1,5 km de saint Lawrence Gap, espécie de rua das pedras de Búzios no Rio de Janeiro ou Rua principal da Praia do Forte na Bahia, onde existem execelentes opções para comer (Bellini's ou Pisces - linda vista, sendo que o primeiro tem um menu de 3 pratos muito saboroso e com preço de R$ 70,00) e também para badalar como boites e bares, sem contar que logo quando termina o Accra hotel começa um calçadão na beira da praia para correr ou passear, chamado de boardwalk que tem restaurantes como o Black Pearl e o Tapas (com chefe italiano, os pratos são muito bons e o ambiente agradabilíssimo, mas o prato individual sai em média R$ 60,00 - Vale à pena ao menos ir e pedir um prato de massa para tira-gosto que vai satisfazer aqueles que comem pouco e ainda dá para aproveitar o ambiente). Nesta aréa tem dois hotéis que muito embora não tenha visitado parecem simples mas interessantes pela localização também, o South Winds e o Yellow bird. Para finalizar a questão hospedagem, não posso deixar de destacar o Hilton que tem o padrão americano e fica em uma praia também legal e que parece ser privada, pois seu único acesso público é feito, tendo que se entrar pelo estacionamento do próprio hotel e pegando um portão que permite passagem de carros do lado esquerdo de quem entra no hotel.

Voltando ao assunto alimentação, devo destacar que Barbados tem preços equiparados aos cobrados em São Paulo, o que com certeza não é barato ( pratos individuais em torno de R$ 40,00 a 60,00), mas existem boas opções com preços menos salgados. Antes de mais nada, quero destacar que apesar de ter comido alguns bons pratos de comida na ilha, a culinária não é algo de destaque.Vamos as opções de restaurantes caros, mas que fazem bastante sucesso e também as opções mais baratas - Em Accra Beach: O Champers (um dos mais caros da ilha, fica em um penhasco lindo, com bela vista do por do sol), O Tapas já citado acima (tambem caro), Mojo (espécie de bar irlandês com música ao vivo e ambiente simples tem comida maravilhosa e preço entre 35 e 50 reais o prato bem servido para uma pessoa - Adorei a comida). Existe também uma rede de fast food local chamada Chefette que tem um buffet de salada, onde a porção pequena que é bem grande para uma pessoa custa R$ 10,00 e você pode complementar sua refeição com um wrap, sanduíche ou como eu fiz com pedaços de frango frito, sempre pedia meio peito de frango por R$ 6,00. Além disso servem pratos individuais de grelhados (carne, peixe, frango e porco com dois acompanhamentos) por R$ 35,00 para uma pessoa (A carne é muito bem servida, especialmente se vc fizer a opção por tamanho maior que é só um pouco mais caro). Logo adiante tem uma espécie de shopping galeria que tem sorveteria loja de conveniência, restaurante chinês, comida mexicana, etc. (fica atrás do hotel Accra).

Em Mullins Beach existe o Mullins restaurant que serve bom peixe grelhado ao estilo bajan, ou seja, ao estilo barbadiano, espécie de churrasco de peixe. Em Saint Lawrence Gap - Bellinis (italiano - vista linda) e Pisces (mesma vista do Bellinis - comida regional), ambos caros. Existe também um restaurante um pouco mais a frente do lado esquerdo, depois do Sweet potatoes, que apesar de simples possui boa comida. Em oistins, cidadezinha mais ao sul de Dover Beach e antes de Miami Beach, existe uma espécie de mercado de peixe em frente ao mar, com diversos boxes que servem peixe grelhado em pratos bem fartos com dois acompanhamentos, podendo ser, macarroni pie (torta de macarrão), salada, arroz, fritas, etc. R$ 20 a R$ 30,00 por pessoa, mas extremamente bem servido. Peça também os bolinhos de peixe ou fish cakes. Comi no box da Pat e e no da Mo, mas todos são bons. Procure o que tiver com mais gente, sempre funciona. É hábito ir na sexta, pois existe uma espécie de festa por lá, mas sinceramente não fui por indicação da atendente do hotel e observando a frequência do local achei que foi uma excelente pedida ter ido outro dia sem muita gente. Servem no almoço e no jantar.

No quesito atrações, fora as praias, vale a pena conhecer Animal flower cave (trata-se de vista magnífica de penhasco, com formalções rochosas feitas pelo mar de um azul turqueza muito bonito, com uma espécie de descida para uma gruta construída pelas ondas) e seguir um pouco mais adiante até a Cove Bay (Baía lindíssima e selvagem com vista bem legal). Na mesma região está a Abadia de São Nicolau (San Nicholas Abbey, que é aberta para visitação e tem um antigo alambique de rum ainda em funcionamento). Passe também pelo único moinho ainda preservado de Barbados (Morgan Mills). No caminho para a costa leste passe pelo caminhos das cerejeiras com vista lindíssima da referida costa e siga pela estrada beirando o mar, até chegar em Basheeba (pode comer no round house restaurant - preço mediano e vista bonita). Próximo a Basheeba, indo mais ao sul está a igreja de São João, belíssima, em lugar alto, com vista maravilhosa e o Codrington College, antigo mosteiro à beira mar, que funciona ainda hoje, como centro de estudos religiosos. Entrando um pouco mais ao centro da ilha pode-se visitar uma autêntica casa garnde no estilo inglês (Sanbury Plantation House - servem almoço a la carte e buffet (US$ 20,00 por pessoa com sobremesa) e chá da tarde. Vizinho ao aeroporto vc também pode ir conhecer o museu do Concorde, podendo entrar em um dos únicos aviões deste estilo preservados. Em Bridgetown pode-se conhecer o Parlamento e seu museu fraquíssimo. Só vale a pena se quiser ver a sala do parlamento, mas é mais bonito por fora mesmo. O museu de Barbados que é mais interessante fica mais ao sul da capital, próximo a pista de corrida de cavalos, bem no estilo inglês.

Transporte em Barbados - A ilha é bem servida por táxis, ônibus públicos e topics populares. Os taxis que saem do aeroporto tem preço tabelado que pode ser visto assim que se desembarca em um quadro que contém as tarifas. Do aeroporto Grantley Adams até Accra Rockley Beach cobra-se 34 doláres barbadianos. Todas as vezes que for tentar negociar preço em Barbados lembre de perguntar qual o custo, em especial nos táxis, pois não possuem taxímetro. Como a ilha vive apenas do turismo as pessoas são muito agradáveis, mas fique atento pois também existem exploradores e alguma pobreza. Assim sendo, sempre pergunte quanto custa e cuidado com a confusão entre doláres americanos e dolars barbadianos. Alguns se aproveitam disso.
Qual o melhor meio de transporte? Depende. Se vc gosta de aventura e não se incomoda em dirigir na mão inglesa e em ruas sem acostamento e extremamente estreitas, com certeza vale à pena alugar um carro. Confesso que tive vontade de devolver o carro alugado no primeiro dia, pois não é fácil acostumar-se a dirigir na mão inglesa, em especial em ruas tão estreitas e sem acostamento. A dificuldade consiste em treinar o golpe de vista para não raspar o lado esquerdo do carro ou ate mesmo os pneus e resistir a puxar o carro para o lado esquerdo com medo de bater no carro que vem em sua direção. As dicas que recebi me ajudaram bastante, quais foram elas, alugue o menor carro que encontrar, ande devagar, procure andar no meio da pista e recolher o carro quando vier algum veículo na direção oposta, lembrar que o lado esquerdo pode se tornar bastante perigoso em segundos, devido a faltra de acostamento e tranquilidade. A vantagem é que de carro vc pode chegar a qualquer lugar que desejar sem hora marcada para nada, no entanto, não aconselho para pessoas que não querem nenhum tipo de estresse. Para esses além dos ônibus e dos táxis, existem os safaris tours e passeios programados.
Agito e Atividades - A noite é mais animada em Saint Lawrence Gap, bem como em algumas festas organizadas nos bares Harbour Lights e Boat Yard, que também funcionam como bares de praia de dia. Na maioria das praias existe oferta de todo tipo de esporte aquático e existem excursões de barco para quem gosta e um submarino para ver o fundo do mar. Eu preferi curtir as praias e demais atrações. Dia de sexta o agito é em oistins à noite, mas sinceramente é meio bagunçado, parece baile em região portuária. Melhor comer lá qualquer outro dia.
Compras - O freeshop do aeroporto de barbados apesar de pequeno tem preços excelentes. Não se espante como freeshop que vai ver quando chegar, o da saída apesar de não ser grande é um pouco maior. Existe também o duty free na capital (Bridgetown) é legal e tem algumas lojas, na Broad Street que é a rua principal da cidade e o seu principal centro comercial. Para o viajante que adora fazer compras, a Broad Street reúne várias lojas duty-free, boutiques de grifes famosas, joalherias e lojas dedicadas a peças de artesanato e decoração. Nas lojas duty-free, não esqueça de levar o passaporte, bem como o número do voo de saída. Eles vão lhe dar o desconto e pedir que entregue papel no aeroporto. Não se preocupe não existe limite de compras no duty free.

Shopping - The freeshop barbados airport though small have great prices. Do not be surprised freeshop like what you see when you reach the exit while not great is a little bigger. There is also the duty free in the capital (Bridgetown) is nice and has a few shops in Broad Street which is the main street of the city and its main shopping center. For the traveler who loves to shop, Broad Street meets several duty-free shops, boutiques eateries, jewelry stores and shops devoted to crafts and decorating.
